Black Artificial Christmas Trees

Living in Minnesota we have a large choice when it comes to Christmas tree farms. The central portion of the state boasts many due to its sandy soil.

A local tradition is for families to spend a Saturday or Sunday afternoon searching the farms for the perfect Christmas tree and cutting it down to take home. The tree farms add to the economy of Minnesota being one of our leading exports.

Like many local families we try to support our local tree farmers every year and because trees are very reasonably priced, we have always bought a live tree for the holidays. In the last few years we have discussed how much simpler it would be not to make the trip to the farms, especially as the children have no left home. We find ourselves even more tempted when we see artificial Christmas trees discounted. We'd save the messy clean up that has to be done when the tree is brought in and out of the house. It would also mean that each year the tree would fit exactly the space we have for it.

When I started to investigate I noticed that the manufacturers have vastly improved upon the way the artificial Christmas trees look. My sister purchased one last year and I had to touch the branches to be sure it was not a real tree. She didn't pay a great deal for tree despite buying it during the prime season. After the holidays they are even cheaper if you look out for the specials where you can usually find them heavily discounted.

Also, there seems to be a much greater choice among artificial Christmas trees. You can purchase one that comes pre-lit for example. This would really cut down on the work but having the bulbs burn out might be a concern. There are replacement bulbs available, of course, but in future years the tree might be taken off the market and then you'd be stuck with no bulbs and a semi-lit tree.

Another variation is the choices of color. This year I've heard the black artificial Christmas trees are very fashionable and, judging by the number for sale, I'd say pink was pretty popular too.

Last year, after taking our live tree and cleaning up the needles from the carpet, we decided that we would invest in an artificial Christmas tree for this year. We checked several post season sales but did not find one that we liked so we decided to wait for the pre-season sales. But then the tree farms started airing commercials about how beneficial they are to the environment and also the states economy. And we changed our minds again. We decided to give the black artificial Christmas trees a miss and to continue to support our local tree farmers by purchasing a real tree. Maybe next year we'll go for the needleless option!
